What We Do

Mission Statement
Long Beach Cares promotes public health and human services programs dedicated to improving the quality of life for those who live and work in Long Beach.

Long Beach Cares works collaboratively with the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services and its community partners to promote wellness and prevention programs.

Long Beach Cares sponsors community events and conferences to promote the importance of public health such as the Mental Health and Wellness Event, the Soroptimist Aids Youth Event, the Maternal and Child Health Event, and the annual Public Health Week celebration.

In 2011, Long Beach Cares published a report to the community entitled “The Economic Value of Public Health” which identified the direct and indirect value and impact of services and programs of the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Department) on the local economy. The report highlighted the more than $113 million direct economic contributions of the Department to the greater Long Beach area.

Since 2007, Long Beach Cares annually awards the Dr. Darryl Sexton Allied Health Scholarship to a Long Beach City College student enrolled in a health-related field of study. Applications may be made by contacting the Long Beach City College Foundation Office at (562) 9384134.

Long Beach Cares serves as a fiscal sponsor and manages funds for public health and public benefit programs and community groups that provide health and human services consistent with Long Beach Cares mission.
